  1. Respect is a word of many definitions. It could be you admiring the way a classmate did something or showing admiration for a colonel. I think respect is displaying gratitude to someone or something. Respect is important because without it we would be treating the president like he was our best friend. If there was no authority or respect everything wouldn’t be taken seriously. For example, there are students who don’t show the amount of respect to teachers that they deserve. This leads to the student getting disciplined for their actions. Teachers are the reason students know how to read, speak, and write so disrespecting them would not be taken lightly. Respect is shown by giving the individual your full attention and not using any type of inappropriate dialogue. You can’t just walk up to a senior citizen and talk to them like they’re a five year old, that would be considered rude and disrespectful. The reason I show respect to people is because I want to establish that I see them as an important person. Also, if I want someone to respect me for the person I am then I will respect them. Although there are some cases where respect should be earned. If someone is being mean and impolite to you you don’t need to show any respect towards them. Overall, I feel you should show at least some respect to people you meet, whether it’s just for a while or forever.

    1. I understand everything you were saying in your response. One thing I do think you could have done is have had more examples. You had some showing how you would walk to someone and talk to them without respect when you should have. But also when you say you talk to someone without respect it doesn't mean that you are talking to them like they are younger. You are just talking to them without showing your sympathy. Respect also may mean other things like respecting someones achievements or accomplishments.

    2. I completely agree with your response. I think you used great vocabulary and you used some figurative language. You used some great examples but I think you could of added a couple more. I also like the example you used for yourself. It shows that you are a great person that cares about others.

  2. Respect is to admire, or think highly, of someone or something based on abilities, qualities, or achievements. Respect is important for many ways. It makes people feel in their power and it makes them know that the person knows their value. It shows that you know that person is of high value. Respect can also be shown in various ways. You can show it by listening and doing what you are asked of by that person or thing. Also, you can show respect by being polite and complimenting someone or something on its achievements. There are many reasons why or why not you would give someone respect. I would only give respect to people that have earned it. I will never respect someone who hasn't given me a reason to respect them. You have to have more abilities or have higher achievements then me to receive it. Or if I respect what you have done because I know it may have been hard. People shouldn't just earn their respect because if they did everyone would be respected when people of higher rank should only be respected. People may respect someone of lower class also because they might respect something they might have achieved.

    1. I completely agree with you. You should have to earn respect and not be just given it! I like how you explained how people show respect because they're ways that most people do show it. Also I like how you added that people can respect others of lower class. And how you described what respect means in the beginning. I too would only give respect to people who deserve it and have earned it. And I agree with how respect is very important and shows how you value that person. I like how you say you respect someone if you know what they've done might have been hard. But I think you should have added more about disrespecting people and how they would loose it.

    2. I understand fully what you are saying. I like the reason you give for why respect is important. It is also good how you give multiple ways to show respect. It is true how you have to earn your respect and not have it just given to you. I like how you say that the lower class could also be respected. You could have put like one or two more examples, but other than that it is pretty good.

  3. Respect is a deep admiration for another person and can show how you truly feel about another person. Respect is a very important thing in life. I think it's is basically just another way to let someone know that you think highly of them or you think poorly of them. It can be shown in so many different ways. If someone is rude to you or just treats you like a three year old then they most likely do not respect you. But if someone is treating you as if you're a great person and extremely important then they have lots of respect for you. I personally do not respect people who are rude and disrespectful to other for no reason. If you're being rude to you're parents or teacher then I will not have respect for you. Also if you're just not a good person and do things you know you shouldn't and like to make others feel bad about themselves, then I will not give you one ounce of respect. I feel as if it is easier to loose respect for someone than to gain respect from someone. Just one mistake and someone can loose every bit of respect they had for you, but even after ten years of being a good person some people may not respect you still. Respect has to be earned, you cant just have it. It's not fair to be a terrible person but everyone loves you and respects all of your choices. Respect doesn't work like that. You have to be a good person and gain that respect you want. But I don't think you should just be disrespectful to someone you don't know. I think you should give someone respect and then once they loose it they have to gain it back. You cant just give it back because you feel bad for them. And you shouldn't disrespect anyone of a lower class than you because you think you're better than them. Respect is something earn , you're not just given it.

    1. I like your response a lot. I think that trust has to be earned and not just randomly given to everyone and that you can lose respect really quick if you do one thing wrong. I like all the examples and explanations you give to back up your reasons. I really like and agree how you said that you shouldn't disrespect anyone of a lower class just because you might be better than them. I believe that you response is very well written and I agree with it 100%.

    2. I like your response, you clearly state how you feel about how respect is earned, given, and used in our life today. I like your use of examples as well. Although, I do not agree with part of your answer. You strongly state that you think trust has to be earned, when I think you should respect everyone. If you state that if someone is mean or don't show respect to others why does that give you the right to do the same in return?

    3. I completely agree. You are very right when you say respect can be shown in many ways. All of these ways are quite simple as well, which is shocking that they don't occur more often. I also liked your example of how you can be a good person for so long but it only takes one mistake to have all of that respect revoked from you.

  4. Respect can have many definitions. I think that respect is a deep admiration for someone or something. I feel that respect is really important and without it the world would be totally different. For example, if everyone in the world started saying mean things to each other and being disrespectful then there would be more fights in the world which leads to more death. Respect is shown through being nice and listening to others when they are talking or doing something.Someone can either have a lot of respect for you or no respect at all. When someone has respect for you they always listen to you and say good things about you. When someone has no respect for you they don't really listen when you are trying to talk and don't say good things about you. An example of respect is listening to your friends or peers when they are trying to tell you something. I respect other people because I would want them to respect me. I know that if I don't respect others they won't have any respect for me. I think that respect has to be earned not given. If people don't respect me I don't respect them. If someone is always interrupting me and saying mean things about me then they haven't earned their respect. If they start respecting me later on then I would respect them a little more. I feel that when you are a respected person and have respect to others your life is easier and better.

    1. i agree with every thing you have to say. the only thing i would change is the repetition of "you". i like the reason you gave about how the world would be complete different if no one respected each other. overall you had a great reponse.

  5. Respect is a very important to me; to me it is something that is earned not given. Respect by definition is admiration for someone or something deeply, as a result of their abilities, qualities, or achievements. That is a great definition, but there is more than just that to respect. You can have respect for someone you have never seen. For example, I have respect for soldiers in the army or any branch even if I have never seen them in my life. I always say thank you for serving and they have earned my respect instantly. Other people like the kids in school do not get it that easy. Some people try to do dumb things to make them look cool and that loses respect from me. A person should be cool by the respect they give to people and how others respect them. I respect people because it was how I was raised and how I want to be. My parents always told me that you respect your elders, soldiers, and people that respect you. You can tell if someone respects you by how they treat you. If they treat you in a nice and kind way then they are respectful of you, if they treat you in a nasty way then they don't have respect for you and you shouldn't have respect for them. I am always open to respecting others everyone should have a chance talk to someone if they are seeing if you should respect them. Respect is big in this world you either have it or you don't.

  6. Respect is when someone treats someone else in a positive or equal way. Respect is very important because it helps others recognize that they are important and equal to everyone else. It can be shown as easy as greeting someone or holding the door for the person behind you or it can be more complex like when someone helps another who is being looked down upon or bullied. Another example of showing respect can be when you talk more appropriately, maturely, and politely. For example, when you talk to your parents, grandparents, principal, teachers, or anyone that is older than you, you don't talk to them like the way you talk to your friends that are around the same age as you. You would talk in a more mature and polite way. In my opinion, I would treat everyone with respect because I want to be treated the same way by others. If I treat others without respect, like not holding the door for them when they are carrying a lot of things, they might not hold the door for me when I need them to. I believe that respect has to be earn and not given because if someone doesn't show respect for you, then you shouldn't show them any respect either. Everyone gains the same amount of respect until they do something wrong and lose it, like trust. Trust has to be earned, not given. One wrong move and someone can lose all of their trust for that person. In conclusion, I think respect is when someone treats someone else in a positive or equal way. Showing respect can be greeting someone nicely, talking in a polite and formal way when necessary, holding the door for someone, standing up for someone who is being bullied or look down upon, or it can be a good compliment for someone. It's important because it shows that you treat others important and that they are equal to everyone else. I respect everyone because I want to be treated the same way and not just some useless person who everyone would ignore and I believe that respect has to be earned, similar to trust being earned.

    1. I agree with strongly everything you said. I especially like how you gave many examples of showing respect. Even with the simplest things like opening the door. This response was great in transitioning and answering all parts of the question.

  7. Respect is how well or nice someone treats you. Respect is very important in life because without it we would live in a very dark and cruel world. You can show it in little instances like saying hello or big like stopping a bully. You don't have to like someone to respect them. You should respect everyone if they deserve it. for example if you see someone picking on everyone in the hallway you don't have to go up and be nice to him. You can go up to him and tell him to stop what he is doing. I think respecting is displayed in your action and your words. If you see one of your teachers carrying a bunch of books you can help her carry them and hold the door open for them. Even if it is your least favorite teacher in the world you still have to be nice. I think it is important to respect others because you want the same for you. If you respect other people then they will return the favor and be nice and kind to you. I respect people because it is the right thing to do and it always makes you feel good at the end when you are nice to someone. Respect is a way to show what kind of person you are. Are you going to be a grumpy person that is mean and does not respect anyone. Or are you going to be the nice person and help even your least favorite person. This is a choice that you have to make yourself. The only way to earn respect is to be respectful in return.

  8. Respect is a word that is applied to our life every day. A person can show respect to someone or something else and receive it from someone else as well. In my eyes, respect is extremely important. It’s almost what makes our world function as it does today. Without respect nothing would flow correctly and make daily life work. It’s shown in various different ways. You can show respect to a person by being kind and accepting their opinions. A major way that respect is in our lives today is that every person needs to respect and obey laws and rules. I respect people because it’s so rude not too. People would get the wrong impression if you didn’t respect their property or feelings; you seem mean. I feel everyone should always show respect, it would make a world a kinder and friendlier place. I think that everyone deserves respect. Because, even if you think someone was mean to you and you were hurt that they didn’t show you respect, you’re doing the same mean thing in return that got you upset in the first place. I hope one day, everyone that doesn’t already show respect will realize it’s the right thing to do.

    1. This is a great response. The examples that you have in here are great. I agree with what you said that everyone needs to respect the laws and rules that we have. I also agree that respect is extremely important. However, in my opinion, life isn't going to flow correctly if everyone does show respect to one another. Great response! I liked it a lot.

  9. Respect is a big deal in the world. To me respect is very important in life. Being respectful to others shows your character and how you truly appreciate them. I was raised well and being respectful was the only thing my parents were really strict on. Just by being raised well changes your view of other people and everything else. Some people need respect in their lives to make them feel good about them self. Just by going up to a parent or teacher and greeting them with a hand shake or a hey how are you can change their view of you as a person. Doing these little things could help you build your character up and help you become a better person. To me respect can be a great thing to help you gain new friends. To me respect is the key to life without it you won't have these new friends or this great character that you need in life.

  10. Respect can be put into many definitions and is applied in our everyday lives. In my opinion the word respect is what makes up our world today. Showing respect is as simple as asking somebody how their day was or holding a door open for others. It makes you feel good about yourself when you do things for others and make them feel like they know people care about them. My parents raised me to be a kind young women that has and shows respect towards others. Sadly, there are people in this world that don't have the right definition of the word respect. Some people are selfish and cruel. People can be mean to you but be the grown and mature person and show them respect anyway. Maybe you can change the way they think and act by showing them what it feels like to show respect. I think that if every single person in this world were to show respect and kindness, our society would be a happier, friendlier, and more enjoyable.

  11. In the eyes of most if not all adults, respect is very important. Sadly it seems that this is the complete opposite amongst younger generations. Respect in my eyes is another way to describe how people treat one another. For example, acting respectfully is to act kindly and with consideration. However acting disrespectfully is to act rudely and without the knowledge of how somebody is to be treated. Knowing the difference is very important in almost all interactions with others. It is very easy to show respect in many ways. It’s as simple as looking somebody in the eyes as they speak. This shows them that you are engaged and focused on what that person is saying. The way you address somebody can be very respectful as well, terms such as sir and ma’am are great examples. When I interact with others my goal is to be as respectful as possible. But these individuals need to earn my respect, which is simple. Just treat me the same way I treat you. This is just common curtesy. Everybody deserves to be respected, if earned. The way you treat people will certainly reflect how others treat you, that should always be kept in mind.

  12. Respect now of days isn't taken into consideration anymore. Kids dont value other people's feelings and give them the kind of respect they deserve. To me, respect is to acknowledge someone, treat them with manners, and just be friendly with them. Some people don't deserve respect while others completely do. For example, a person who doesn't do good in.their life and go's around hurting people throughout their lives shouldn't be treated with respect. Respect isn't given, its earned. You have to show someone that you can be treated like an adult, and can be given responsibility's that they trust you with. Just remember the golden rule, "treat others the way you want to be treated." My feelings of respecting people is tremendously great. You don't know what that person has been.through. One little ounce of respect and kindness can change their life around like that. Always treat the RIGHT people with respect, and not someone who doesn't deserve any kind of respect.

  13. I do think respect is important because it shows that you care about some and that your showing that you have their attention. I think respect is being kind to a person and showing that you have a interest in what there saying. It is shown in the way they talk and what the emotion on their face is and if there paying attention. I respect others because it's the kind and right thin to do and it makes an impression on yourself. If everybody respected everybody maybe there would be no bullying or even less bullying. I think everybody deserves respect because treat someone the way you would want to be treated .

  14. Respect is a word that can have different meanings to different people. I think respect is being kind to someone else. You should treat people the way you want to be treated. If someone is asking the teacher a question in school, you should show respect by listening to what they have to say and not talk over them. Who knows, you may just have the same question. I think respect is very important because it wouldn't make you a good person if you didn't show respect towads others. I respect people because I would want them to respect me back. I wouldn't like it if someone was mean to me or talking over me all the time, and I certainly woul not do that to anyone else. You should be kind and respect your piers. I think that everyone deserves respect. I think so because even if someone is disrespecting you, you should be the better person and still respect them no matter how cruel they are to you. Respect is something that everyone should have.
