  1. Edna St. Vincent Millay said, “Beauty is whatever brings joy.” reading this quote I think what she means by this is whatever makes you happy is considered beautiful in your eyes. I think this because if someone isn't doing what they like they will find the world cruel and ugly. But if someone is doing something they love they see the world as something beautiful. For example, if you like a certain sport you might find the way an athlete is playing the sport aweing. As for myself, what brings me joy is art and music. The way songwriters put thought in there songs or composing a song makes me think its beautiful. The same goes for art, painters have a mindset when looking at their canvas. Also I see it as a way for someone to relieve stress and make others happy. Overall What i think Edna is trying to say is to do what brings you joy to bring beauty to yourself.

  2. "Beauty is whatever gives joy." Edna St. Vincent Millay had once said. What Edna meant by this quote is that whatever gives you joy is what makes you beautiful. I think that this quote is very reasonable. By doing something someone like, it makes themselves happy. When someone is happy, they are beautiful because they are cheerful and smiles a lot. Some things that gives me joy are my friends and family members. Whenever I am worried about something or feeling uneasy, my friends and my family members cheer me back up. They always support me whenever I need someone by my side. Not only that, my friends and family members always make me laugh throughout the day. In school, my friends cheers me up and makes me feel not left out. At home, my family members, especially my sister, cheers me up. As you can see, when Edna St. Vincent Millay said, "Beauty is whatever gives joy.", I think she meant that whatever gives someone joy, it gives them beauty.

  3. The thing that gives me joy is the game of Football. I’ve played since I was 5 years old. I have always loved playing. I have played almost every position but the positions that I’ve played the most are Quarterback, Running back, Wide Receiver, Tight End, Defensive End, and Cornerback. I love the Intensity that football brings and the competition. I will always play football; the only way i will stop playing is if my body is unable to move.

  4. Edna St. Vincent Millay once said "Beauty is whatever gives joy." I think that Edna St. Vincent Millay is saying that whatever brings you joy in life is the beauty to your joy. Many people have different beauty's in life. My beauty right now is my school work and nothing else. I now know that school comes first before everything else. This is why I chose school as my beauty to joy. Its not the only thing that gives you joy. School work gets you good grades and it takes you to where you want to be in life. School should be the only beauty to kids in school because that's whats going to get them far in life. Its not all about the fun of sports or other activities. The beauty of school work will get me a lot farther in life right now then sports. The grades you get now will get you into those big D1 schools. Its not all about the ability you bring to the field or to a game you play. Its about your dedication to your grades and how well you do in school.

  5. Edna St. Vincent Millay once said "Beauty is whatever gives joy." What I think Edna St. Vincent Millay is saying that if you like doing something and it makes you happy that is beautiful. For example if you hate your job and it makes you angry and annoyed then that's not beautiful. You will find that job ugly or in other words just a horrible place to be. You will hate every second here and that's not beautiful ,or joyful. Something that makes me happy is cheerleading. I love all the friends I made from it and how I can hangout with all just because of cheer. But I also love what we do at cheer. For example when you finally hit a stunt that you worked so hard on is one of the best feelings ever. Find something you love and that is beautiful to you so you can live a happy and joyful life.

  6. Edna St. Vincent Millay once said ," Beauty is whatever gives joy." I agree with this quote completely.  It has a literal meaning not a figurative. It means exactly what it says meaning it's a literal quote. I think what this quotes mean is that whatever gives you joy or what you really like makes something beautiful. Also, meaning beauty is different to all people. So if something gives you joy it makes it beautiful. If being funny makes or gives you joy then that's beautiful. If a girl or boy being really cute gives you joy, then that's beauty. Beauty comes from everything that gives you joy and makes you happy.

  7. Edna St. Vincent Millay once said, "Beauty is whatever gives joy." From experience i know that this is true. I know this because in one of my experiences, i witnessed what i believe to be true beauty. It was the day of my certification dive. I remember slowly descending to the bottom by the edge of the dock and seeing the amount of star fish stuck to the dock pillar become more and more. I remember getting to the bottom and watching the crabs and flounder scurry away from under us. I even remember seeing a family of horseshoe crabs making their way to the beach. But most importantly i remember distinctively getting back to the beach, taking off my gear and my dad and instructor were waiting to congratulate me. It was the first time i had accomplished something like that independently. I was age ten. So i do agree Edna St. Vincent Millay because i can remember experiences like that that gave me an over abundance of joy and were truly beautiful.

  8. " Beauty is whatever gives you joy" Edna St. Vincent Millay. I think this quote mean that you should do whatever makes you happy. You can do whatever you want as long as you are happy with what you are doing. I like to run. When i run a feel like every other struggle in the world is left behind and it is just you and your thoughts. When i run i am happy and free. I think everyone should have the option to do what they love. And everyone should be happy.

  9. The quote “Beauty is whatever gives you joy” by Edna St. Vincent Millay is a very good quote. What ever you as a person considers beautiful can give you joy. Something that is beautiful to you makes you happy and happy is another word for joy. For example, the game of basketball gives me a lot of joy when I play it. No matter how hard a practice is or how bad we lose I still think it is the best sport. The beauty of basketball gives me joy. The quote is a one of the best I have ever heard. I think that everyone should have to respond to this quote.

  10. Edna St. Vincent Millay said “Beauty is whatever gives joy.” What she is trying to say is that life is about happiness. That the beauty in life is when you are at your happiest. My happiness comes when I am playing baseball, and succeeding at it. If you are not happy in life, your life is not successful. I agree with what Edna St. Vincent Millay is saying, that life is only beautiful when your happy.

  11. "Beauty is whatever gives joy." This quote by Edna St. Vincent has a strong meaning to it. What she means is your joy is a beautiful thing to witness. When you see some happy or in a good mood, its a nice thing to see. It can make you happy, or find what makes you joyful. "Attitudes are contagious, but is yours worth catching?" Being joyful can make others joyful around you too. Many things make me joyful. My family is number one. My friends also. Sharing good times with them is always putting a smile on my face. Joy is a beautiful thing, and that's the truth.

  13. Edna St. Vincent Millay once said "Beauty is whatever gives you joy." I think that this quote is very true. I think that it means if you see something as beautiful it gives you joy all the time. It will even give you joy when you are sad. The beauty in my life that always brings me joy is the game of baseball. I am always happy when I show up to a game or practice and get out there and try my hardest. No matter how hard or boring a practice or game may be I always feel joy when I play. Even if I am mad before a game or practice right when I get there it all goes away. 14. Edna St. Vincent Millay said “Beauty is whatever gives joy.” I thinks that this is true because if there is something that you see as beautiful then it must give you joy. For example, if you're having a bad day, you would want to do or look at something that brings you joy. I have lots of beauty in my life that brings me joy. I have my friends. Whenever I'm having a bad day or need someone to cheer me up, I go to them. They always bring joy into my life. If I ever need help with something, I can go to them. I have so many beautiful things that bring me joy, but my friends top it all. This quote can relate to everyone because everyone has something that is beautiful and brings joy to their life.

  15. Edna St. Vincent said "Beauty is whatever gives joy." In my personal opinion I think the message is that what ever gives you joy and makes you happy is considered beautiful to you. You're the only person who can tell whether what you're doing is beautiful. If you see somebody having fun and laughing it puts a smile on your face knowing there confident in themselves to enjoy life. I always say smiling is as contagious as yawning. I know when I see somebody enjoying life and smiling it puts a big smile on my face. At the end of the day I know I have friends and family that support and I can't help but just smile knowing I have people who love me for who I am. They always know how to cheer me up when I'm upset and that's what true friends do. Life is worth living so make sure your living everyday with joy and laughter.

  16. To me this quote is not completely valid. I think that beauty is opinionated. I enjoy lots of things, and I also dislike many things. That does not mean some things are beautiful and somethings aren't. The types of activities, people, or objects that I enjoy may be the only thing in which another human being loathes entirely. Therefor being the opposite of beauty to that particular person. This is true for many things. I may enjoy being with a specific girl, believing that she truly is beautiful. My parents/guardians quite possibly could not enjoy her in the same way that I do, this girl could even suck the joy out of them. Does that make her not beautiful? No. It is not my parents ideas or opinions that are important in my interpretation of this particular girl. It is entirely up to me to decide whether or not she is beautiful. The only quote that I could think of that involves beauty that is entirely valid is "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder". If more people were to live by this idea, happiness would be so much more apparent and frequent than how it is now.

  17. "Beauty is whatever gives joy" can relate to pretty much every situation. Such as someone's favorite sport of subject can make them feel happy. The thing that gives me joy would be either watching sports with my family or skiing. Skiing is beautiful and brings joy because whIle being able to feel the wind in your face and going 20mph downhill, you get to expericence new environments and meet new people. Scuba diving also relates to this because you are seeing new creatures and wild life, but you are also experiencing a one in a life time chance to see new animals and or environments, which brings joy and shows us beauty. These all give me joy because I'm doing things that people only dream to do, I'm seeing new people and learning new things. Yet while im doing these I'm creating memories that I'll have for a life time with my family and friends.
